Uno de los riesgos a la hora de alimentar a nuestras colonias es que el trozo de alimento que les pongamos en la caja de forrajeo sea demasiado grande, las hormigas lo introduzcan en el hormiguero y que acabe pudriéndose dentro del nido, contaminando así las cámaras. Con esta zona de alimentación podemos dar todo tipo de alimentos (insectos, carne, fruta, pollo, jamón…) evitando este riesgo, ya que al no poder sacarlo de la caja por el pequeño orificio, las hormigas tendrán que alimentarse dentro de la zona de alimentación. También permite dar insectos vivos introduciéndolos en la zona de alimentación, ayudando así al proceso de caza de la colonia y evitándoles estrés.
